| The East Allen Township Fire Department conducted a training session at Keystone Cement Company, specifically focusing on heavy lifting operations.
The event was a collaborative effort with the Forks Township Fire Dept, who joined us for a specialized training session. The focus was on a scenario involving the lifting of a dry bulk rail car that had fallen on its side.
To ensure a safe and controlled lift, the crews positioned Lifting Airbags at all four corners of the rail car. As the car began to rise, the members “captured the load” using wooden cribbing, prioritizing safety and stability throughout the process. The crews worked in unison to stabilize and elevate the massive car.
We want to thank Keystone Cement for providing the invaluable onsite location and the rail car for this hands-on experience. We also extend our thanks to Yocum Towing for their support. While we were prepared for the worst-case scenario, fortunately, we didn’t have to rely on their 60-ton rotator tonight. However, it’s always reassuring to have such a powerful machine on standby. |
